I was caring for my son who was being treated for Leukemia ALL. I monitored my sons overall health at all times, giving him his numerous medications, and transporting him to his scheduled and unscheduled doctor’s visits and hospital stays, as well as, trying to maintain his education as much as he was physically capable.  He was disabled during this period of time.

 I provided occupational therapy treatment according to the implementation strategies provided by the Occupational Therapist .I maintained daily and monthly documentation and participated as a member of the interdisciplinary team for my case load of assigned clients. I provided information about the treatment to the therapist as needed. Program areas:  Money management, work tasks, social skills, leisure skills and personal hygiene, sensory stimulation, sensory integration, visual stimulation, vestibular stimulation, tactile stimulation, auditory stimulation, active range of motion, passive range of motion, pediatric massage, and aquatic therapy.  I assisted clients with their treatments both on and off campus.  I assisted one client’s integration into the community into his own apartment.

Recreational Therapist I
May 1985 to October 1987
I developed therapeutic recreational treatment programs based on needs established in the clients Annual IHP (individual habilitation plan) and served as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.  I wrote the implementation strategies and provided the treatment and the daily and monthly progress notes. Programming was carried out both on and off campus and ranged anywhere from 30minute sessions to week long sessions.  Program areas: leisure skills, social skills, Special Olympics, holiday activities, summer camps, swimming, arts and crafts, bowling, community activities, concerts, movies, shopping, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and church services.  I also implemented a schedule of leisure activities for the clients and the resident staff to have a better quality of life during their leisure hours.  I supervised Recreational Therapy Aide I, Recreational Therapy Aide II, and Recreational Therapy Assistants.  I assisted with staffs yearly evaluations and any disciplinary actions that may be required. I was one of four staff who interviewed and hired new Recreational staff as needed.  I was in charge of time keeping in the absence of the secretary.  I scheduled campus activities seasonally for approximately 600 clients, and Special Olympic activities and practices seasonally. I requisitioned supplies, medication, and scheduled staff, for all activities as needed.   I provided transportation for clients to and from activities.  I gave medications and treatments to clients while they were away from campus.
